Mad Men Fight Proves Product Placement Critics Wrong PDF Print E-mail
Mad Men fans let out a collective groan last week when news hit that an extension of the show was at risk because AMC, its cable network home, was fighting with the show's creator, Matthew Weiner, over terms.

One of those terms, interestingly, was that AMC wanted Weiner and Lionsgate (the production company) to allow more commercial time and more product placement in order to accommodate salary demands — and, naturally, make more money from the franchise.

TV viewing rises worldwide PDF Print E-mail
Television viewing times continue to rise around the world, even in mature markets like North America and Europe.

Research firm Eurodata TV reported that the global average consumption time hit 3 hours 10 minutes per day last year, an increase of six minutes compared with 2005.

North America delivered a lift reaching four minutes measured against 2009, registering 4 hours 39 minutes overall, while Europe grew in line with the norm, on 3 hours 48 minutes, across the same period.

News Corp aims to build own social gaming business PDF Print E-mail

Media giant News Corp aims to build its own social-gaming business as valuations of games companies, such as FarmVille maker Zynga skyrocket, its head of digital media said on Wednesday.Jonathan Miller also said News Corp's The Daily, a newspaper designed for Apple's iPad, had had hundreds of millions of downloads since its launch in the United States last month. It will begin charging readers for subscriptions next week.

UK retail sales fall by more than expected in February PDF Print E-mail
The volume of UK retail sales fell by more than expected in February, dropping by 0.8% on the previous month.

It came as High Street retailer Next warned of very challenging times ahead for retailers and consumers.

The Office for National Statistics said the drop in sales had been broad-based, with only car fuel and non-store retailers seeing sales grow.
